While ‘Too Many Timmys!’ may not be quite as strong a narrative as the previous short, I’d say I enjoyed this one just a bit more, purely because of how much it excelled in the comedy department. Basically, it’s not quite as good, but I liked it more.
The set-up here is, with Timmy getting overworked thanks to Vicky, he wishes that there were a ton of him to carry the workload, and once things go too far, he tries to rally them together so he can wish them all away. A simple plot, sure, but it does generally work.
The one hang-up I do have about the plot is the rule that all the copies need to be in the room at the same time so you can wish them all away. I dunno, that just felt a little too contrived, but it was at least a good attempt to keep the stakes in there.
But like I said, this short is funnier than the previous one. Sure, Cosmo and Wanda have a pretty lame “go fish” joke, but that’s the only real dud I can think of. Every other joke either had me chuckling or cracking up. Vicky thinking she’s going nuts is a particular highlight. With all the Timmys wandering around the house, it’s absolutely hilarious seeing Vicky try to process it all, second-guessing her own sanity, and eventually secluding herself in the closet. The comedic timing, the animation, and the writing really sell it.
I also got a kick out of the “44 1/2 Timmys” punchline. I thought that it would simply be, like, one Timmy that’s cut in half, so he would either be just legs or the top half. But no, it’s just a Timmy that’s half as tall as the others. It was a nice subversion there.
Overall, while this short may not be as visually creative or narratively strong as the previous one, I got more laughs out of it, and it’s still worth a look if you’re in for a quick laugh. Oh, and Wanda as a construction crane is horrifying, thanks for the nightmares.
