A Fairly Odd Review Series: Season 0, Episode 9: “The Really Bad Day!”

While ‘The Really Bad Day!’ isn’t my favorite of the shorts, it’s still really good. It’s not only really funny throughout, but it does wonders in developing Cosmo as a character, making him that much more likable as a result.

In this short, it’s revealed that every few thousand years, a fairy gets their chance to be bad for a whole day(Wanda apparently caused the extinction of the dinosaurs on her last one, wut), and now it’s Cosmo’s turn. But thanks to Cosmo’s kind heart and innocent nature, his ideas for evil deeds are way too harmless to really count for anything. Apparently, if fairies aren‘t bad enough on their bad day, they get sent to the academy for 500 years, so Timmy and Wanda bring in Genghis Khan to teach him the ways, leading to him trying to blow up the world.

If you’re wondering, yes, the execution is as amazingly ridiculous as it sounds, but it still manages to work. The first half really goes to show just how kind Cosmo is; even if he wanted to be evil, he’s completely incapable of pulling it off. His deeds are basically the equivalent of switching peoples’ shoes when they aren’t looking, and I’m not gonna lie, it’s pretty adorable. The goatee he has on only makes it even funnier.

The insanity really takes off when Genghis Khan gets involved; not only does he have his own version of Vicky(who also has the same facial hair as him), but Cosmo turns the world into a bomb. All the comedy surrounding this is great, and it’s tense enough to make it a solid climax.

The only real issue I do have is the idea that fairies will be punished if they aren’t bad enough. If Cosmo didn’t run out of time by the end, he would have killed off the entire human race, and I’m honestly kind of surprised it hasn’t happened already. If it had, every fairy would basically be out of a job, which really makes me wonder why there doesn’t seem to be a limit. If Wanda is allowed to cause an entire species to go extinct, you gotta wonder what the threshold is.

While the short isn’t perfect by any stretch, it’s still fun enough where I’m glad I saw it. The implications behind it are…odd, for sure, but that doesn’t hamper my personal enjoyment of it. Oh, and Wanda definitely ended the world after the end, and nobody can tell me otherwise, lol.
